Three landscapes. Three communities. One Vietnam, seen differently.

Mountain & Sea explores how Vietnam’s landscapes have shaped the communities that live within them. The journey begins among the rice terraces and Thai villages of Pù Luông, continues to the fishing communities of Vietnam’s South Central Coast, and then crosses the mountains into the Central Highlands, home to Ba Na and Jrai communities.

Along the way, travellers experience more than beautiful scenery. They visit an early-morning fish market on the beach, meet a family growing sea grapes in Dốc Lết, travel through traditional villages and spend time around the Rong House and village water source in the Central Highlands.

The journey ends with an ordinary morning in Hội An — walking through the local market, enjoying bánh mì and roadside coffee before the town welcomes its first visitors.

The Coast Again

Return to the coast through Quảng Ngãi and Hội An, meeting a family that still produces traditional malt syrup before ending with a simple local morning in Hội An.

The Coast · Ninh Thủy

Where life follows the tide.

Before sunrise, the beach is already alive. Boats return, basket boats touch the shore and the morning catch is sorted on the sand. Here, the sea is not a backdrop. It shapes the rhythm of everyday life.

Where community remains at the centre of life.

In the Central Highlands, the Rong House, shared meals and the sound of gongs reveal a culture built around community. These are not isolated sights, but parts of a living rhythm that continues from one generation to the next.
